30 Day Challenge

The yoga studio I am currently practicing at is doing a 30 day yoga challenge. Although this is not a new concept, it is worth visiting, as it could provide inspiration to try another 30 day challenge whether it be yoga, or whether it be giving up caffeine.

Why 30 days? 30 days is the threshold to make or break a habit. Stephen Covey famously said that it takes 21 days to create a habit. Some of us need longer – so let’s just round it up to 30. A 30 day challenge allows you to take baby steps to achieve your goals.

This 3 minute TED video spells it out clearly. I don’t think I could give up sugar for 30 days like Matt Cutts did, or chocolate for that matter.

Think of something you’ve always wanted to try. Make those small changes, see your self confidence grow, and achieve your goals. You can even sign up at 43 Things and find others with similar goals and cheer each other on with encouragement. The #21 All-time Most Popular goal on the site is “get a job”. There are others like ‘lose weight’, ‘stop procrastinating’ and ‘drink more water’.

So, the question is, what will your 30 day challenge be?  Feel free to share in the comments below.

  1. As a yoga teacher and entrepreneur who grew up with Stephen Covey in her mom’s cassette player, I LOVE this blog! What better way to build the habits to success in a balanced way? Thank you.

  2. My 30 day challenge, starting Nov 1st will be to read at least 2 chapters of a business book every evening before digging into a novel. I have many I want to read, but never seem to give myself the time.

  3. I have been wanting to do this for a while and now here’s the perfect opportunity! Tomorrow is November 1st and my 30 day challenge is to give up gluten and dairy 🙂

  4. I will drink at least 1.5 liters of water a day!

  5. My 30 day challenge started today! I will start every day with my vitamins – without missing a day – and drink at least of cup of green tea daily!

  6. Great post Jess! Starting today, I challenge myself, my husband and 2 other friends of ours for the next 30 days to have at least 20 minutes of physical activity daily! Off to the gym now =)

  7. Great post – I’m thinking a good 30 day challenge for my family would be meal planning …. we are notorious for not thinking of what to have for dinner until 4pm and then that depends on the groceries already in stock in the house (plus it really is the ‘witching hour’ when my son wants to play and be lifted up all the time, making it that much harder to make dinner). Thanks for the motiviation

  8. I know I’m a week late here, but on November 7th, I was given a beautiful acoustic guitar. Being a pianist from the time I was 5 years old, I’ve always been intrigued by the guitar but have never taken the time to learn how to play it. I have promised myself that for the next 30 days, I will play it every day for at least 20 minutes. So far, it’s a lot of fun – thanks for the inspiration! 🙂
